All parents are concerned with their children ’s development, and seek many ways to stimulate them intellectually and instill in them good values. There are many valuable things that parents can give their children which will contribute to their development. They may be as elaborate as a computer or as simple as a ball. In my opinion, the best gift for a child is an animal because it will help them develop many important values.

The most important value is responsibility. When a child has a pet, he is in charge of that animal’s health and happiness. Moreover, it is a lifelong responsibility. Unlike a toy, a pet cannot be discarded when the child becomes bored with it. Another important trait that a pet can help a child develop is consideration for others. When he sees how his behavior affects his pet, he may become more compassionate and considerate. Finally, a pet is a good companion for a child. It may teach him the value of having and being a loyal friend.

In conclusion, I believe that a child can learn many valuable lessons from the experience of owning a pet. Animals may not be able to speak, but they may be the best teachers when it comes to things like responsibility, compassion and friendship. If it is possible for parents to give their child an animal to care for, it will prove to be a very meaningful gift.
