In some countries, the most important animal is a national symbol, for example the koala in Australia and the bald eagle in the United States. In others it is an endangered species such as the black rhino or Bengal tiger. My country also has symbolic animals that people consider important. For an endangered species e have the giant panda, and for an important symbol e might choose the mythical dragon. It not only represents good luck and fortune, but is also associated with water, something which is very important to people living on land. Although these are both good choices, I do not think either of them is the most important animal in my country. Rather, I advocate a much more lowly animal, the pig, as the most significant to my country because it is not just a positive symbol, but also very useful.
The main reason that I choose the pig is that, in my opinion, the country’s most valued animal does not need to be graceful or cuddly, but rather beneficial to the average person. To my mind, utility is more important than symbolism, and the pig is a very useful animal. First of all, pig farming is still an important industry in China. Since we are now a developing country, our agricultural roots are so important and farming is a vital source of livelihood for many people in the countryside. Second, pork is one of the most popular foods in my country. It is important in traditional Chinese cooking and is a relatively inexpensive source of nutrition.
Although the pig is important primarily as a source of food, it also has some symbolic value. While it is regarded by many people as a dirty and stupid animal, the pig is far from unintelligent. On the contrary, it is quite clever. In addition, the pig is an important symbol in the Chinese zodiac. People born in the year of the pig are likely to be happy and lucky with money. Thus. it is a positive symbol in my country.
Considering all of these factors, I believe the pig is a logical and honorable choice for the most important animal in my country. It may not be as majestic as the American bald eagle or as lovable as the Australian koala, but considering its utility, cleverness and status as a representative of happiness and fortune, it is, all in all, a good choice.
