In this crowded city there are few resources more valuable than open land. As businesses continue to expand and more people move here in search of jobs, it becomes more difficult to find any space not occupied by a building of some kind. For most people, owning a traditional house with a garden is an impossible dream. Instead, they live in high-rise apartment complexes. If I received a gift of land, I would build my dream house, but also open a portion of the land to those who wish to enjoy a garden but cannot afford their own.
My land would be divided into three sections. The first and smallest portion would contain my own house. Perhaps this is a bit selfish, but someone must reside there to oversee the activities on the rest of the land. The remaining land would be divided into two equal parts. The first would be devoted to gardens, but I would not design these gardens myself. Instead, I would allow nearby residents or school groups to sign up for a small section and plant it with whatever they liked. This would allow many people to indulge in the hobby of gardening and preserve this disappearing art. We could even have annual floral and landscaping competitions. The final part of the land would be left in its natural state, for I feel that this is also a form of beauty worth preserving.
The above plan would allow a greater number of people to enjoy the piece of land that I received. It would also help to promote and preserve the art of gardening as well as keep people in contact with nature. For all of these reasons, I believe that my plan would be a good use of the land.
