To receive an unexpected gift of money would be a happy thing. It would mean freedom to indulge in luxuries that were previously unaffordable. However, it would also mean taking on the responsibility of spending the money in the best way. This is especially true when the fortune does not come to an individual, but to an institution such as a school. If my school were to receive a gift of money, what would be the best way to use it? In my opinion, it would be to buy up-to-date computer equipment for students to use.

Buying computer equipment would be the best choice for several reasons, but the following are the two most important. First, it would allow all the students in the school to have access to computers when they do research or write reports. As it is now, some students have computers at home while others do not, and this gives the former an unfair advantage. Second, the chance to learn how to use up-to-date computer hardware and software would be a great advantage to all students. No matter what career they pursue in the future, they will most likely have to be computer literate. Nowadays, knowledge of computers is as an important part of our education as history and mathematics.

To sum up, buying computer equipment would be the best use of a gift of money to my school because it would bring important benefits to students. Moreover, unlike such things as athletic equipment or musical instruments, it would benefit all students equally since computers are something that all students must use. In this computerized age, computer literacy is essential and it is never too early to give students this advantage.
