Every country and culture have at least one unique feature, such as food, handicraft, music, art, sport, noted historical sight or innovative product. Choosing the one thing that best represents my country would be a difficult task. There are many objects that could convey a sense of my country’s history and culture. However, I believe the best choice would be a fine piece of calligraphy.
In Chinese culture, calligraphy is not merely writing, but also art. The delicate brushwork is not only beautiful, but creates a feeling of harmony and balance, both of which are characteristics that are esteemed in our society. Thus, this representation of high achievement in art is also an indication of the values which are important in my country. In addition, calligraphy represents the importance of language and writing. Chinese writing is a unique system of pictographs, which is both very exact and expressive. Furthermore, calligraphic writing gives an indication of the history of my society. Chinese characters have been written for thousands of years, and have changed and adapted over time. Therefore, it is a living and dynamic form of communication.
For all of the above reasons, I believe that a piece of calligraphy would be the best object to send to an international exhibition as a representation of my country. It would give the attendees a sense of my country’s history, culture and values. Therefore, I can think of no better symbol of my country.
